To the whole St Mark’s family,
The Parish Council is required to send the attached notice and draft ordinance to all members of our church. It is likely not to interest most of you so please don’t feel under any compulsion to keep reading or to open the attachments unless you’re keen to.
In our Diocese, an ‘ordinance’ is basically a piece of binding legislation approved by the Synod or the Standing Committee (which governs the Diocese when the Synod is not in session). The ordinance attached has been drafted by the Diocese for approval at the next meeting of the Standing Committee. Its purpose is to stipulate the precise relationship between our parish and the Anglican Church Property Trust (who officially own our church property). My understanding is that an ordinance such as this has not been necessary previously, but is now considered best practice in the light of new regulations and expectations which have come from the ACNC (Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission- established in late 2012). The reason we have been asked to attend to this now is because we are in the process of negotiating a new licence with the St Mark’s Preschool for use of our church property over the next five years.
If you have any questions you’re welcome to ask.
